Water Treatment - Any Questions?
We Have Answers!

Here are four of the 17 most commonly asked questions about proper Water Treatment for your furnace:

1. Why should I use Water Treatment?
2. How much should I use?
3. What happens if I don't use Water Treatment?
4. Why should I submit a water sample for FREE testing?

Note that ALL 17 questions are answered in the NEW OutdoorBoiler.com. (More on that later, but stay tuned for more details to come shortly - It is a very exciting tool for outdoor wood furnace owners.)

Today, we will focus on Question #2: How much water treatment should I use in my outdoor boiler?

First, let's be clear: If you are not using water treatment properly, now is the time to startYou do not want a furnace sitting idle over the summer with water in it that is not properly treated. It is never too late to start protecting your investment.

A furnace without water treatment is like a car engine without oil - it is only a matter of time and your furnace walls will be paper-thin and start to leak, and at that point, you will not be able to save the furnace.

Remember, our goal here at OutdoorBoiler.com is to help you protect your investment! Proper water treatment is the single most important step you need to take to protect your furnace.

So How MUCH Water Treatment should you use? The answer is complicated - We cannot know what your water quality is in every location of the country!  AND THIS IS WHY THE FREE WATER TESTING IS SO IMPORTANT!!! Since water qualities are so different throughout the country, you will just never know if your furnace is properly protected without the FREE water analysis provided by the OutdoorBoiler.com Support Lab!

BUT, our chemists have given some guidelines; for example, when flushing a furnace completely and staring with fresh water. The instructions are to add ONE gallon of water treatment per 200 gallons of water. An HE-2100 has 368 gallons, for example, so in that case you would just add TWO gallons of water treatment. An HE-1100 holds 150 gallons, so we would recommend just adding the full one gallon of water treatment when filling an HE-1100 with fresh water.

When a furnace has been in operation, and received a GOOD water test result in the last 12 months, we recommend adding one-half gallon to an HE-1100 or GX10/15, and one full gallon to an HE-2100 or GX30. Then allow the water to circulate for 24 hours, and then send in a water sample to the lab for FREE water testing.

Click on this link for full instructions on submitting a water sample to the OutdoorBoiler.com Lab for FREE water analysis and testing.

Water qualities are different in every location. So we provide these guidelines, and the FREE water analysis and testing services so you can have the PEACE OF MIND knowing that your furnace is properly protected!

But this much is clear: You MUST have the proper OutdoorBoiler.com Certified Liquid Armor Water Treatment in your furnace. We at OutdoorBoiler.com want your furnace to last for DECADES and save you thousands of dollars each year, but we cannot achieve this goal if you do not properly protect your investment.

EPA Ban On Outdoor Boilers

OutdoorBoiler.com has released the following statement:

"A delay in implementation of this far-reaching rule is not enough. These rules make absolutely no sense for more than 95% of the country, which is rural, where wood burning bothers nobody. These over-reaching rules appear to say that the EPA wants us to stop using wood - a RENEWABLE FUEL - and only use fossil fuels that support terrorist countries, or transition to coal, which is not regulated in any of these bewildering rules. This is evidence of how out of touch Washington is with the rest of the country. These rules (insofar as hydronic heaters are concerned) should be completely reversed, and the decision of how to regulate wood burning should be a local issue, much like the arguments being made by those in favor of restoring other freedoms in the US."

PLEASE REMEMBER that the EPA has now BANNED outdoor wood boilers. Therefore...Once your boiler reaches its end of life...which hopefully will not be for decades,
...YOUR DAYS OF SAVING MONEY BY BURNING WOOD WILL BE OVER!

We want to help you keep your boiler running for several more decades - helping you SAVE money for many years to come.
  • This is why we spend so much time on providing YOU operating tips, maintenance information, and other valuable resources to keep your outdoor wood boiler healthy and durable.

Don't miss our breaking new report on steps you can take NOW to increase the life expectancy of your outdoor boiler. Click HERE to read this report.

For more information on the EPA rules on wood burning, click HERE. As you will see, most boilers are banned effective January 2016, and the remainder as of January 2020. Some claim to meet the 2020 "particulate" standard, but do not meet the other 2020 emissions limits. The technology does not appear to exist to meet all 2020 rules, hence the EPA has effectively banned outdoor boilers.
